Hersha Hospitality Trust's fortune is in hotels, not chocolate. The self-advised real estate investment trust (REIT) invests in hotel properties, primarily midscale, upscale, and extended stay properties in metropolitan markets across the US. It owns or co-owns more than 50 hotels containing nearly 8,000 rooms, most of them in Boston, New York, and Washington, DC, as well as in Miami and Los Angeles. The properties are operated under such brand names as Marriott International, Hilton Hotels, Starwood Hotels, and Hyatt. Hersha Hospitality Trust owns a minority stake in Hersha Hospitality Management, which manages the REIT's properties. Starwood Capital Group owns the remainder of Hersha Hospitality Management.
